Within approximately the first six months after obtaining your US DOT number, you will be subject to a US DOT Safety Audit. A Safety Audit will be conducted by a DOT officer/inspector from your state DOT Enforcement Division or by a Licensed DOT inspector from a third party company. The main purpose of the Safety Audit is to check your files and record keeping procedures to see if you are in compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
